Challenging the way public services are accessed by the humans who need them is hard. There is often a rigid system for delivering public services that has been built during several generations. The faster the commercial world moves on, the further the public services get from being able to realise the potential in the technologies available. Rules and laws made for a time when printed letters and faxes were the best way to share data don't hold up well in current times when information can be processed and shared widely in a fraction of a second. We set out to explore the possibility of sharing data about services with the humans who need them, and shifting focus from benefitting the system towards benefitting the human. It has led to a wild ride touching on policy nudging, service design, AI, democratic use of data, data interoperability and starting where you are. We have ended up with a functioning service - but does it provide clarity for people or just add to the noise? Our session will allow us to explore the challenges and opportunities we faced.
